How to obtain more storage place in a tiny house

Moving into a tiny house and giving up a way of living that has been our default mode growing up might be a huge step to take and it can seem really scary at first, but with the right mindset and knowledge, all difficulties of tiny living can easily be solved in order to enjoy a happier, healthier and more fulfilling life.

Living small involves lots of ingenuity and probably compromise, but it’s also a great thing to do if you wish to downsize or decrease your environmental footprint. However, one of the main challenges of this adventurous lifestyle is that you have limited personal and storage space, so you must come up with creative and practical tiny home storage ideas.

While you might not be able to increase overall space in a tiny home, per say, you can definitely learn a few tips and tricks to help you make the most of the space you do have and find the ways that work best for you when it comes to storing all of your belongings in a tiny home.

With these being said, let us show you 3 awesome tips to help you obtain more storage space in your tiny home:

  1. Buy or build multi-use furniture

Multi-use furniture is a great way to obtain more storage space, because with every square meter saved with one piece of furniture, you can allow yourself to have more storage space. You can also have furniture items with built-in storage.

For example, instead of having a large table with four chairs, you can have a smaller foldable set of table and chairs which you can put away when you don’t need it, so it won’t ever be in the way.

Another great idea is to have a two-in-one sofa bed which you can use as a comfortable sofa in a lounge area when you have guests over and then as a comfortable bed during the night. You can even build in some drawers or storage boxes under the sofa or the bed, where you can store your things and still have them out of sight.

  1. Have storage spaces built in your stairs

Some tiny home designs include ladders which you can use to access the upper sleeping area, and while ladders take up much less space in your home than a set of stairs, you might want to consider having a set of stairs with a hidden storage area underneath.

  1. Make good use of your floor

Yes, you read that right. You can make some pop-up storage spaces in your floor, where you can also store certain items that you don’t use so often. You can even have a pop-up mirror stored underneath your floor, which you can easily put away and hide when not needed.

These are just three very simple and practical ideas for storage-extending in a tiny house, but once you move into your own tiny home, you will realize that everyone finds what works best for them as they go along the way, and having little space is not an issue if you have a little creativity.
